Southern Cravings

Saltbird brings a taste of Louisiana to Jupiter

The spirit of New Orleans is focused on a few things: music, a laissez-faire attitude, and good food. And that’s exactly what Jupiter’s new Saltbird Kitchen & Bar brings to the table.

Located on U.S. 1 near The Twisted Tuna, Saltbird is all about “honest Southern food, curated beverages, great local music, and neighborhood hospitality.” The indoor/outdoor eatery is led by partners Brian Leary and acclaimed Atlanta chef Ron Eyester (a Top chef alum), who have crafted a menu that highlights the flavors and soul of Louisiana cooking—including Southern staples like po’ boys, fried green tomatoes, black-eyed peas, fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and buttermilk fried catfish.

The space is designed as a gathering hub for the community, with a large, open, indoor space and an indoor/outdoor patio and bar. The cozy outdoor space, with cushioned seating and low tables, is perfect for partaking in a cocktail or two—perhaps a Jupiter Porchlight (Hendrick’s gin, St. Germain, fresh lemon, cucumber, basil, Q tonic), a Lowcountry Smoke (Desolas mezcal blanco, fresh lime, agave nectar, ginger beer, orange bitters), or a Saltbird “Cherry Coke” (Maker’s Mark, Mexican Coca-Cola, cocoa bitters, Luxardo cherries, burnt orange peel). Libations also include a variety of beer and wine.

Driving home the NOLA vibe, Saltbird hosts Fat Tuesday specials every Tuesday—chef-driven, Louisiana classics like red beans and rice and gumbo. And Jazz Sundays, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., feature musicians from The Jupiter Jazz Society.

Saltbird is open 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and until 9 p.m. on Sunday. Happy hour (which includes $9 snacks and $6 signature cocktails) is Tuesday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
