Sweet Surprise
In a town where seafood is as prevalent as sunshine, the name “Little Moir’s” is recognized by everyone. Now the team behind beloved Jupiter seafood joints Food Shack and Leftovers are getting ready to reveal their latest endeavor: Sweet Fish.
Mike Moir—the “little Moir” of Little Moir’s—has been feeding locals some of the best seafood dishes for nearly 25 years. He started with Food Shack, the granddaddy of the Little Moir’s empire. To be blunt, most newbies to the area probably don’t even give it a glance as they pass by on their way to Publix next door. It’s small and unassuming, with a block-letter red sign and a front door splattered with stickers. Poor newbies. They have NO IDEA.
The beauty of Food Shack lies in its simplicity, which begins with nothing the best freshest ingredients. Produce is sourced locally, and the fish? Little Moir’s catches their own (really— they’ve had a wholesale and retail fishing license since 2012, which allows them to farm out the angling to conservation-minded fishermen. But in the kitchen, Moir and his team—which includes co-owner and chef Drew Shimkus and executive chef Frank Murgio—take that simplicity and embolden it with flavor. No one else can make a simple filet of fish, crusted with sweet potato and served over salad, taste so damn good. (If you know, you know.)
Food Shack expanded next door to Maxi’s Lineup, a tiny bar that serves some of the menu items from Food Shack and, more importantly, hosts some of the best live music most nights. Then came Leftovers in Abacoa (in 2008), a seafood-centric restaurant with a similar menu to Food Shack but a personality all its own. And in 2019, Hibiscus Streatery opened its doors, a market and takeout restaurant that lets locals bring a taste of the Little Moir’s magic home.
Mike Moir just keeps bringing it. Every one of his Jupiter restaurants has been a huge hit, and now he’s about to bring it again with seafood joint number FIVE?!! Seriously, if he were in the NFL, he’d be on the verge of an entire hand of Super Bowl rings. Crazy.
The other day, signage went up at Sweet Fish, which is located in Chasewood Plaza on West Indiantown Road, right next to Lewis Steakhouse. So, while the team hasn’t yet announced an official opening date, it looks to be right around the corner. We can’t wait to stop in and see what the youngest Little Moir is all about. There will be fresh fish, of course, but Moir has mentioned that the menu will also include items like Nashville hot chicken and lobster poke. The rest remains to be seen, and I’m betting on the Little Moir’s dynasty crushing it once again.
